The technology now exists for the better sharing of experience of individual case outcomes - on an international basis using the internet to create and populate a registry or database of case reports. CICERO is a proposal to create a universal database on the net, with online access to accredited contributors, where individual case reports of treatment outcomes and serious adverse events can be recorded - initially for patients with haematological malignancy.

The resource pack is designed to be used by front line staff working with children with learning disabilities who have constipation or encopresis. The pack design is based around 8 flow charts representing developmental stages in the helping process and one summary chart. Each stage is broken down in three parts: aims, actions and resources. For each flow chart there is an overview chart which can be filled in with the key points and shared with parents.

Reliable vascular access is one of the most essential features of modern medical care. Central venous catheters (CVCs) are being increasingly used to provide long-term venous access as around 5 million CVCs are purchased each year in the US. These devices are indispensable, but their use is far from problem free.

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the US estimates that the average rate of CVC-associated bloodstream infections (BSIs) is 250,000 per year at an estimated cost of $25,000 per episode. The annual cost of caring for patients with CVC-associated BSIs ranges from $296 million to $2.3 billion in the US alone.
