The technology now exists for the better sharing of experience of individual case outcomes - on an international basis using the internet to create and populate a registry or database of case reports. CICERO is a proposal to create a universal database on the net, with online access to accredited contributors, where individual case reports of treatment outcomes and serious adverse events can be recorded - initially for patients with haematological malignancy.
The main advantages are low cost international
publishing, elimination of publication bias, and regular updating of case
outcomes. Of course the site would be independently regulated by the
profession, not for profit, and the data input would have to be peer reviewed.
The potential knowledge gain is vast, as one would be able in the future to get
some crude response rates to innovative therapies and allow the early detection
of previously unsuspected adverse events. We believe the Pharma industry will
fund it. Please read the information on this site, think about it, and submit
your comments. This service is going to happen. Make sure it has your support
and that it is properly set up in the first instance.
This service is proposed to be strictly not-for-profit and
with no vested interest by: Dr Paul Cervi, MRCPI, FRCPath - Consultant
Haematologist, UK,
Basildon & Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Trust
