New Initiative Helps Regional Research and Innovation

Help to progress research or innovation in the areas of health and social care is now available to individuals and organisations located in the East of England.

 

A new website called ‘Health Point East’ (www.healthpointeast.org) has been launched to provide relevant information to help develop ideas and turn them into practice. Pioneering this project is Health Enterprise East (HEE) in partnership with NHS East of England Strategic Health Authority, working through the Health Research and Innovation Alliance in the East of England. HEE is the NHS innovation hub for the East of England.

Region’s NHS Staff Take The Honours At National Technology Awards

Healthcare innovations put forward by NHS staff in the East of England swept the board at the National Technology Awards held in London recently, with three out of the four first prizes being carried away by staff from the region. Health Enterprise East (HEE), the region’s NHS innovation hub, was one of nine similar organisations located throughout the UK, to put forward entries. Thirty regional finalists were then selected from which the winners were chosen.

Voice Recognition Software

Voice Recognition Software Created By Essex Consultant To Speed Up Diagnosis

New voice recognition technology to allow the hands-free recording of pathology reports, leading to faster diagnosis and treatment, has been created by a Consultant Histopathologist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust in Harlow and the company Hands Free Computing Ltd. Dr Salam Al-Sam helped tailor the UK Pathology Edition Software by adding over 600 pathology specific voice recognition commands, over 1000 words to the pathology dictionary and aiding Hands Free complete the product user manual.

The Laindon Survival Model has been developed to enable patients to make a more informed choice about their healthcare. This mortality assessment technology translates the percentage risk of cardiovascular disease from the varying presentations of particular patients. Every patient has their own view of acceptable and unacceptable risk, and what interventions they would tolerate or avoid. This software allows patients to visually see the impact of their life-style habits and also the benefit of available interventions.
