The resource pack is designed to be used by front line staff working with children with learning disabilities who have constipation or encopresis. The pack design is based around 8 flow charts representing developmental stages in the helping process and one summary chart. Each stage is broken down in three parts: aims, actions and resources. For each flow chart there is an overview chart which can be filled in with the key points and shared with parents.
The pack combines information and resources from what is known about
encopresis and constipation for normally developing children,
communication with children with disability and communication with
parents. The pack is based on a model of helping parents by working in
partnership, developed by Hilton Davis and is designed to be used
practically after completing a five day training course. The course is
aimed at giving skills in communicating with children with LD, a brief
review of the principles of communicating with parents and detailed
work with the use of the materials for encopresis.
