The Weigao Group Corporation Award and a cheque from HEE for £3,000 went to John Cockburn & Simon Wemyss-Holden from Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust for their Bimodal Electric Tissue Ablation.

Second Prize

The Smith & Nephew Innovation Award with a cheque from HEE for £1,500 went to Hesham Al-Khateeb from the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust for his Novel Technique in Collecting Bone Debris.

Commendations

Commendations were awarded to, Richard Eldred and Hilary Winch from Norfolk Primary Care Trust for the Ergonomic Lightweight Folding Stool and Dr Salam Al-Sam from The Princess Alexandra Hospital for Liquid Based Cytology for Bone Marrow Aspirates.

First Prize

The Scott York Innovation Award and a cheque from HEE for £3,000 goes to David Wilson-Nunn, Jane Strivens, Huw Purcell-Jones and David Chapman from Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital NHS Trust for their Electronic Booking & List Management System.

Second Prize

The Keymed Innovation Award and a cheque from HEE for £1,500 goes to Rhonda Kempster from Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust for the Electronic Discharge Letter.

Commendations were awarded to, Cathy Forbes, Lorraine Hosey and Leanne Fishwick from Bedfordshire Primary Care Trust for Are you getting enough? A macro and micronutrient calculator for tube fed patients and Barry Whitlow, Prof Arulkumaran, Bhavesh Patel, Roopa Nair and Pourna Patel from Essex Rivers Healthcare NHS Trust for the Interactive CD-ROM Teaching and Training Programme on Cardiotocography.

Service Delivery Category

First Prizes

Two first prizes were awarded in this category. The first was the “NHS Live” Innovation Award and a cheque from HEE for £3,000 goes to Tristan Palmer, Bridgette Shad and Meadhbh Hall from Norfolk Primary Care Trust for My Health Book & Health Action Plan Care Pathway. The other First Prize was the “Nesta Challenge” Service Innovation Award and a cheque for £3,000 went to Carrie Tyler and Helen Langthorne from Essex Rivers Healthcare NHS Trust for their Activity Table.

Second Prizes

Two second prizes were awarded in this category.  The first was the Mills & Reeve Innovation Award and a cheque from HEE for £1,500 goes to Nicola Shaw, Nicky Murray and Anne Devenish from Luton & Dunstable Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for Flexikids ‘fit ‘n’ ‘fun’ physio programme.

The other Second Prize was the Deloitte Innovation Award with a cheque from HEE for £1,500 went to the East Anglia Study Group led by Helen Murphy, from the Ipswich Hospital Trust and her colleagues, Val Ball, Jonathan Roland and Rosemary Temple, for their Improving Pregnancy Outcomes in Diabetes programme.

Commendations

Commendations were awarded to, Nicki Hallett, Dale Reed and Barbara Ellis from Peterborough & Stamford Hospitals NHS Trust and Whitemoor Prison for the Whitemoor Palliative Pathway for patients in prison and Sue Bayles, Zoe Oddy and Sarah Southerby from Mid Essex Primary Care Trust for Healthy Living Solutions.

Special Prizes

Several special prizes were awarded during the evening. The East of England Strategic Health Authority and Health Enterprise East are increasingly working together with the aim to introduce innovative practise and technology into the region and so improve patient care. A number of collaborative projects are being developed at the moment and as a result of this closer collaboration the SHA expressed the wish to award its own prize in this competition. Neil MacKay, CEO of the SHA, presented the award with a cheque for £1500, to Suzanne Lane from the Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust for her Development of a Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Service for Inflammatory Arthritis.

The final prizes of the evening went to the Trusts with the most entries.  The winners were Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals NHS Trust and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, both with seven entries.  Each Trust was presented with a cheque for £1,000 from HEE to further their research.
