Description Patient with prominent ears currently undergo an otoplasty which takes 90min and has a 20% risk of complications. A recent clinician led development has created a product that is capable of permanently adjusting the angle of the ears with a 10 min out-patient procedure performed by more junior staff under local anesthetic. A scaffold made from memory materials is inserted under the skin at the back of the ear through a small incision and then anchored into the ear cartilage. As the material cools it bends the ear to a pre-determined angle. The scaffold is left in place while the ear cartilage re-models itself into its new shape. After 6-8 weeks the scaffold can be removed through the original incision.
