Injuries caused by sharps which are contaminated with blood or other body fluids may transmit blood-borne infection such as HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. Data shows that intravenous drug users often attempt to dispose of used syringes in a safe manner especially when anonymity can be maintained.
Recognising this need an inventor at North Essex Mental Health Partnership Trust has designed a range of secure metal burn bin cabinets for the anonymous collection of used hypodermic needles. Each cabinet is of strong robust design and features a novel non-retrieval disposal chute. Access to the collection chamber is via a full length fully opening door which has internal hinges and is double locked to heighten security.
The cabinets are manufactured under licence by Essex based A&R Engineering, and can be installed in drug exchange centres, chemists, Primary Care Trusts, A&E departments and GP surgeries. For more information please read the enclosed flyer.
