New BiVent ET Tube

New BiVent ET Tube Delivers
Significant Benefits to Patients and Healthcare Providers

A novel device to successfully isolate one lung from the other during thoracic surgery whilst improving patient safety is now available to NHS Trusts and other healthcare providers throughout the UK.

The Papworth BiVent Endotracheal Tube, which has been created by Consultant Anaesthetist Dr Sunit Ghosh who works at Papworth Hospital, allows ventilation to one lung to be stopped whilst maintaining ventilation of the other.

The new design offers a number of significant benefits: it is easier and quicker to pass through the larynx and position correctly, its bifurcated tip design allows the tube to sit on the carina in a stable position and the bronchus blocker can be rapidly passed through either lumen directly into the bronchus, considerably reducing the time from intubation to lung isolation.
