In the Software & ICT category, Mr Dinesh Verma from Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was recognised for devising a Personal Ophthalmic Diagnostic System (PODS) using novel technology as an innovative tele-eye screening tool for visual functions.

This is to replace current devices used for visual function assessment which are expensive and require a skilled person to operate, possibly leading to delayed diagnosis of sight threatening conditions. PODS is a low-cost device to be used by the patients at home to screen or monitor their visual functions on a much more frequent basis than is currently possible.

This provides a safety net which identifies glaucoma patients if they cancel or do not attend.
