The DH has already highlighted potential savings of £192 million per annum with our rapid cardiac test, gained through a dramatic reduction in admissions from patients presenting to A&E; with chest pain. £48 million savings could be achieved with our community test for DVT, and £7 million savings from our test to exclude heart failure. Alere technology is also playing a key role in addressing health inequalities by helping to deliver the NHS Health Check Programme. On-the-spot cholesterol results enable single visit 'One-Stop' health checks to be delivered anywhere in the community offering providers greater opportunity to engage with and motivate 'hard to reach' groups. 2009 saw over 180,000 NHS Health Checks performed with Alere rapid technology in a range of settings, from GP surgeries and clinics to supermarkets, churches, business premises and community centres.

Alere continues to invest in UK R&D; and manufacturing and we will continue to actively partner with the NHS to enable the changes desired by clinicians and patients alike.
