Focus of the Day - 'Diagnostics in the Community'
Diagnostic technologies have improved enormously in recent years, expanding their offering and in some cases lowering cost. A new technical dawn is making diagnostics available right within the community, either point of care at the GP’s office or even within the patient's home, making possible direct QIPP (Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention) improvements.
However, inappropriate diagnostic techniques applied on those in the wrong settings can be a source of waste and confusion. In order to deliever its future success the NHS needs to strike a balance between the implementation of new diagnostic technologies and alignment of available resources.
