Case Study
Exploring and testing market opportunities for a new virus protection mask
The MedTech Services team recently completed a project for a European company developing a novel face mask which gives superior protection against envelope viruses.
The company wanted to understand if the product would be suitable for use by immuno-compromised patients. Our programme involved involving visits to clinical staff in ICU, transplant and oncology departments to gain insight into the current practices employed.
Rather than focusing solely on the patient we sought to understand how all stakeholders are protected from viruses whilst in the hospital environment. By visiting 4 hospitals we gained a balanced view understanding the commonalities and differences in approaches to virus protection.
Our study revealed that whilst there are opportunities for the product in departments caring for immuno-compromised patients, it is not the patient who is the principal target, rather those visiting. Furthermore, the research identified significant new opportunities for the product through the increasing emphasis on infection prevention and control at the corporate level.
These insights have given our client valuable information to direct both product marketing and future product development.
