SBRI East - 2011 Phase 1 Winners

Winners Announced -  July 2011
 
Advanced Therapeutic Materials Ltd.,based Warwickshire, put forward an innovative approach to providing long-term care and self-management for patients with venous insufficiency, venous ulcers or lymphoedema. Data is taken from an advanced 3D imaging device to produce customised compression garments delivering prescribed pressures accurately and reliably over the whole treatment area. Venous leg ulceration alone currently costs the NHS over £400 million a year.

Aseptika Ltd.,
based in Huntingdon, has devised a home-based rapid and quantative test for bacterial respiratory infections in patients with cystic fibrosis, leading to a
reduction in hospital admissions and stay length and improving healthcare outcomes.

Edixomed Ltd., located in Edinburgh, is working on a nitric oxide dressing for diabetic patients with chronic leg ulcers to enable rapid healing. The system delivers nitric oxide directly to the target tissues, helping to increase blood flow and stimulate wound healing.

Sky Medical Technology Ltd.,based in Cheshire, is developing a disposable adhesive medical device for self-administered treatment of an overactive bladder which affects around 10% of men and 16% of women, the latter particularly following childbirth. The portable device uses non-invasive neuro-muscular stimulation technology to help treat this distressing condition.

Pintrack Ltd,based in Essex, has put forward a product called Outminder which is an independent living solution designed to empower people with long-term health conditions to regain independence. It offers the user support as well as giving a carer the ability to remotely deliver real-time support via a paired mobile device to solve any problems a user encounters.

PneumaCare Ltd,based in Cambridgeshire has produced a revolutionary non-contact respiratory assessment system which can provide more detailed information on patients' condition swiftly and easily. The instruments can measure and characterise subtle changes in respiratory function that characterise deterioration in moderate to severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). There are an estimated 3.7 million people in the UK with COPD and the costs associated with their care is almost £500m a year, more than half of which is hospital care.

PolyPhotonix Ltd,based in Sedgefield, Co. Durham, has created a home-based treatment for diabetic retinopathy and age related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD is the biggest cause of poor sight and blindness for the over 60's and the potential cost savings to the NHS of implementing this technology could be substantial.

Radisens Diagnostics Ltd., based in Cork, Ireland is developing an integrated point-of-care blood analyser platform and multiplexed panels, which diagnose and monitor patients for multiple chronic and acute care conditions including diabetes and heart disease. The SBRI East project integrates a kidney disease test on to the chronic care blood panel.
